Salida School District Athletics Continue to Update Summer Workout Policies
sports physicals

June 26, 2020

Update from the Salida School District Athletic Department:

Summer Practice Guidelines have been updated as of June 23, 2020. Some of the major changes include beginning to allow indoor practices of up to 25 student athletes and the scheduling of our weight room – locker rooms will remain closed at this time.

Head coaches for SHS and SMS sports have the complete set of local guidelines.

Invitations for families to complete paperless athletic registrations were emailed to those enrolled at SHS and SMS eligible for athletics last week. Those new to the district or enrolled as homeschool or out of district will have access to the link by the beginning of August.

A note from Athletic Trainer Dan Evans:

Please encourage parents of student athletes to call their primary care providers office or one of the below clinics to schedule a well-child check / sports physical.  At this time, we will not be offering a mass sports physical event at BVHS or SHS.  If the student athlete has insurance, a well-child check with a sports physical typically costs nothing.  However, for those without insurance or that do not currently qualify for a well-child check, First Street Family is charging $25 and HRRMC $36 for a sports physical.  I am working on getting the price reduced to $25.

Again, if they have insurance and qualify for a well-child check the visit will be at no cost to the family.

Shelby Lindsay, a new provider at the Salida Health Center, stated that he is more than willing to see athletes for a well-child check / sports physical.  He started at HRRMC right at the start of the pandemic but has worked in rural health for years and has performed numerous sports physicals.

I would encourage Fall sport athletes to schedule now.  If your athletes only play a Winter or Spring sport ask them to schedule after August 10th if possible.  This will help keep the clinics from becoming too congested.
