School Board – Current Vacancy and Election 2019

The Board of Education of Salida School District R-32-J reminds all voters in the Salida School District of the upcoming election. The School District is comprised of five director districts and two “at large” seats.

Due to a recent resignation in District 5, the School Board, in accordance with state law, has declared a vacancy. The Board will host an open house question and answer at 5pm on Tuesday June 11th, 2019 for anyone interested potentially in filling this vacancy or running for the School Board in November. The process to fill the immediate vacancy is:

1. Interested persons are invited to send an application** to the Board of Education c/o Board Secretary Brandy Coscarella with a statement of interest and qualifications by June 20, 2019.

2. The Board will interview prospective candidates on June 27th at a public meeting.

3. To be eligible for appointment, a candidate must reside in the director district that the applicant is seeking  (i.e. Salida School District 5), and must have been a registered elector of the Salida School District for at least twelve consecutive months prior to the date of appointment.

4. The appointee will serve until the next regular school biennial election in November 2019.

**Board of Education Vacancy Application packets are to be turned in to Brandy Coscarella, School Board Secretary/ 349 E 9th St/ Salida CO 81201. Interested candidates must complete an application that consists of a letter of interest, resume, and a list of three references. The application must be received in the office of the Secretary to the Board of Education by 4:00 p.m., June 20, 2019.


The November 2019 election will include five seats up for election -

District 5 (2 year term) Vacant Seat- The Board is currently looking to temporarily appoint from June 27 until the November election 2019. If no one is appointed this month, the seat will remain vacant until filled in the election.

District 4 (2 year term) Joe Smith incumbent

District 2 (4 year term) Jennifer Visitacion and Joel McBride currently live in this District. One or the other may decide to run for the At Large Seat up for election in 2019 (see below)

District 1 (4 year term) Penny Wilken incumbent

All electors in the Salida School District can vote for each director seat. Election packets including petitions to collect signatures will be available from the Salida School District beginning August 7, 2019.
