2020-2021 Calendar Update with COVID Dates

Salida School District Updated 2020-21 Calendar as of August 17 2020
Calendar 2020-21 Updated with COVID Dates
Dear Families
The return to school in August has been a national focus the last few weeks.  In some ways it is nice to have the politicians realize the importance of getting the American school system fully operational, and in some ways it has been very unhelpful as we attempt to navigate these quickly changing conditions.  The Governor issued a mandatory mask order yesterday, which includes schools.  We expect the state public health department and the state department of education to provide additional guidance as well on reopening schools.  As our regulatory bodies continue to develop more consistent and clear guidance we will adapt and respond. Our plan is the same.  We know that in-person instruction is best for most kids and for our community. We also know that local conditions may not support that desire.  The district does not know what mid-August conditions will be in our community anymore than you do.  As we get closer we will shift to match the conditions. We do know that our local numbers of infection are trending the wrong direction. If the conditions allow us to offer 100% in-person instruction, we will do that. If the conditions only allow us to offer 60%, we will do that.  If the conditions only allow us 10%, we will do that. As we monitor the conditions and regulatory guidance, we are simultaneously boosting our capacity to offer better education in a remote fashion.  We strongly believe that our local teachers will be able to meet your local families needs with new online systems that we did not have in April/May.  If you have a clear sense of your family's online needs, please let your principal know so that we can tailor remaining design questions to give you exactly what you need.
Attached is an updated school calendar.  The first day of classes for your child is August 19th.  Please also note that we may have to move into June in some scenarios as we respond locally to COVID19 conditions.  It may not be necessary, and we are being proactive because it is possible.
Respectfully,

David Blackburn
Superintendent
