School Board Approves Superintendent Recommendation to Open in the Green
back to School Pencils

July 29, 2020

The leadership of our school district is working tirelessly to not only develop a plan that creates a safe atmosphere for our students and community today, but also to be prepared to take swift action and adapt to the ever changing environment that we currently live in. The most difficult task that we are facing is how to make murky waters clear. It’s not always possible, but investing long hours listening to our community, the governing bodies we are associated with, and our public health agencies, we believe a plan has been put in place that makes a potentially difficult time of transition a little more clear.

As of this morning the Board of Directors has voted to move forward into the green stage of our 2020 Academic Framework. This means that we are rapidly acting in our schools to provide your students with the best opportunities for education that we can offer to the community to meet your child’s unique needs beginning this Fall. First of all, everyone should review what this means by going to our webpage ( and selecting ‘Reopening Plan’ (also linked here). We are currently approved to proceed with entering the Green Phase of this plan, but it is worth noting that this could change daily. The purpose of this plan is to help make decisions more natural and fluid as we are presented with unique challenges daily, and to clarify why those decisions are made.

The goal of the leadership of any school district is to prioritize the students above all else, and in a pandemic that means creating and implementing safety measures as well as adapting our offerings to suit your child’s needs. Along with filling those needs, it is important that your family spend sufficient energy determining what the best fit is for your student. For more information about Salida's online programming options please reach out to Amy Ward at

This year will not always be easy. Not everyone will agree with every decision that is made. You will likely be stressed at some point. Those are all near certainties. However, we promise to go above and beyond, to listen to all our stakeholders and governing bodies, and to provide clarity with all our communication in this time. Even in this time of trial, we as a community, with one mission can be effective.

“The mission of the Salida School District, in active partnership with family and community, is to ensure that each and every student is prepared to succeed in life, by providing quality instruction and progressive curriculum in a secure and challenging environment which will empower students with the skills necessary to achieve their greatest potential.” Mission Statement of the Salida School Board

Last night the Salida School Board approved the purchase of HVAC filter improvements that will retrofit HEPA filters to block 95% of viral particles to include COVID19. Our maintenance department at the Salida School District also uses electrostatic wands to disinfect surfaces. We are proud of the processes and improvements we can implement.

More information about exact procedures of how our classrooms will be run in addition to information on appropriate channels both to receive and present communication with your student’s specific school will be emailed out early next week.
