Meet Salida Schools Resource Officer Harry Peele
H Peele SRO

Dear City Of Salida Family,

On behalf of the Salida Police Department, it is with great pleasure that I introduce myself. I am Salida Police Officer Harry Peele, your Salida School District School Resource Officer. I would like to take some time and provide you with some background on me. I was raised in a military family and I am the oldest of five. My mother served in the United States Navy and my father served in the United States Marines.

I myself served in the United States Army for a total of nine years. I started off my military career in the North Carolina Army National Guard in 2004 as a Heavy Wheel Mechanic. In 2007, I changed over from the National Guard to Active duty service. My Military Occupational Specialty, or MOS, was a Tank Armor Crewman. My first and only duty station was Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, where I was attached to the 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division.

While stationed at Fort Carson, I conducted two combat tours overseas. My first tour of duty was in 2008 in Iraq where I conducted a wide range of missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While in Iraq, I served in the areas of Mosul and Kirkuk. My second and final deployment was in 2011 to Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, I served in the Arghandab River Valley in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2013, my service obligation was completed, and I was Honorably released from duty.

Upon my release from military service, I began working at Kit Carson Correctional Facility, a level three private prison facility. While working within the prison, I held many roles such as Correctional Officer, Movement Officer, Master Control Operator, Special Operations Response Team member squad leader, and Assistant Maintenance Supervisor. In 2017, I enrolled in the Colorado Mountain College Police Academy in Glenwood Springs. In 2018, I was afforded the opportunity to serve the great City of Salida and become a member of the Salida Police Department.

My goal as your school resource officer, or SRO for short, is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for staff and students. Some ask why I became an SRO. I became an SRO because there is no greater opportunity to help someone than in the role of an SRO.

I am excited to have students back in the classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy and the enthusiasm for learning during these most difficult times. It is only together that we will all make this school year the best we possibly can. In conclusion, it is truly an honor and a blessing to serve the many families and children of the City of Salida as your SRO.

Sincerely,

Officer Harry Peele
