District Accountability meets the first Monday every month in the Kesner meeting room 2nd floor, 5-6:30pm

District Accountability (DAC) welcomes any community member to attend monthly meetings and if interested join DAC. Community involvement is key to high quality communication with the school district.

DAC Meeting Notes:
  1. Community Values Survey learnings
    1. Reviewed Community value statements gleaned from the survey and focus groups
    2. Discussed using an updated values statement during the upcoming Community meetings to validate educational values going forward
    3. Propose value statements to the Board for their review and agreement on an updated District Values document
    4. Resending the survey data/analysis as background when reviewing the value statements for updating
  2. Public/Community meetings planned for Facilities Master Plan study results
    1. Board to decide on time line/dates for Community meetings or request DAC inputs on how to manage meeting process
    2. DAC advice:  Board lead and be present at meetings. Set context and values for DLR presentation and discussion
  3. Objectives for the Community Meetings:
    1. Review value statements with Community: we ‘heard’ you, are we missing anything critical?
    2. Share DLR data/analysis, explore possibilities, anything missing, timing for action decisions
    3. How are demographics shaping/identifying forces impacting district education parameters?
    4. Provide food and child care to support and attract as many Community members as possible
    5. Be clear to Community that Board owns Values and Planning process to be ready for needed change; in the best interest of every child
  4. On-going Community conversation/dialog around education:
    1. Board requested DAC look at a Book Club/Study process
    2. DAC discussed objectives, implementation risks/process
    3. Concluded its too early to launch without the context of a strategic plan and clearly identified communication process; lead by the District
    4. Book study and conversation could be part of an overall Community/District communication process; book not a ‘single’ venue for discussion/learning
Continued discussion on maintaining quality of education while adapting to rapidly changing education environment:
  • District signed a 5yr lease with St. Joseph’s to utilize Boys & Girls Club area for Crest during the school day and the Club after school
  • Enables Crest to securely grow
  • District hired 12 new teachers to cover for retirements, add capabilities in math, Spanish and curriculum support
  • District shared initial draft of 2018-19 Priorities
Next DAC meeting planned for 8/27 to continue planning around Community meetings. September DAC meeting set for 9/10.
